President Trump will outline his accomplishments and look to future initiatives when he delivers his remarks to a joint session of Congress Tuesday night, a key adviser said.
The speech, which starts at 9 p.m. ET, will be his first major address to lawmakers since returning to office in January.
White House adviser Alina Habba told reporters that the speech will be divided into two sections. The first will detail the president’s accomplishments since he was sworn into office, including the cuts by the Department of Government Efficiency and imposing tariffs on some of the top U.S. trading partners.
“There’s obviously a tremendous amount of wins that we’ve had in the Trump administration since we started,” she said. “I think the American people are honored and proud, and we need a recap of that.”
Ms. Habba said the second part of Mr. Trump’s speech will look ahead by addressing fears that tariffs will exacerbate inflation. Mr. Trump’s 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada went into effect on Tuesday, and on Monday, he raised tariffs to 20% against China, saying Beijing hasn’t done enough to crack down on the opioid crisis.
“He’s going to look forward at what he’s going to be doing for this country,” she said.

Ms. Habba acknowledged that there is fear Mr. Trump’s tariffs will lead to inflation, but dismissed those concerns. She said President Biden left his successor a struggling economy, and once Mr. Trump’s economic policies are in place, Americans should see lower prices.
“So until we get rid of Biden’s economy, which doesn’t just disappear on the day that the president is sworn into office, until we fix that, and we will fix it … we’re going to see the repercussions of [Mr. Biden’s] behavior and his decisions,” she said.
