Vance joins liberal social media site to unwelcome reception

Vice President J.D. Vance joined the BlueSky social media platform Wednesday afternoon. Vice President J.D. Vance was suspended from the BlueSky social-media platform Wednesday afternoon.

Mr. Vance made his first post on the left-leading Twitter substitute at 4:50 p.m., posting some excerpts from the Supreme Court decision on states’ powers to regulate “gender-affirming” medical treatment for youths.

“Hello Bluesky, I’ve been told this app has become the place to go for common sense political discussion and analysis. So I’m thrilled to be here to engage with all of you,” he wrote to accompany screenshots from the justices’ ruling.

He continued the thread with two more posts in his own words about the decision, its criticism of expert opinion, and the possibility of experts being bought by BigPharma.

Within 20 minutes, his account had been suspended, according to a screenshot of the account posted on X by LibsofTikTok.

Mr. Vance’s X account, where he posted his initial BlueSky foray, did not mention the suspension.

By around 8 p.m., the account appeared to have been restored, though some high-profile accounts quickly rallied the troops to ban him anew or permanently.

BlueSky was founded as an alternative to Twitter after it was purchased by Elon Musk and he changed its censorship rules, against which conservatives had chafed for years.

Many left-leaning political commentators and influencers abandoned Twitter/X for BlueSky in protest. The site has similar rules about “hate” that Twitter once did.
