President Trump said Wednesday the White House will raise American flags on two poles he had planted as a personal gift to the nation.
Mr. Trump, posting on Truth Social, said the flag-raising on the North and South lawns would occur at 11 a.m. after a final installation earlier in the morning.
“It is a GIFT from me of something which was always missing from this magnificent place,” Mr. Trump posted. “These are the most magnificent poles made — They are tall, tapered, rust proof, rope inside the pole, and of the highest quality.”
“Hopefully,” he posted, “they will proudly stand at both sides of the White House for many years to come!”
Mr. Trump promoted his effort to make the grounds a bit more patriotic-looking in between closely watched messages about the conflict between Israel and Iran.
Mr. Trump is meeting with his top national officials to determine whether the U.S. should get involved in the conflict to finish off the Islamic Republic’s nuclear capabilities.
The president said Iran should have negotiated a deal earlier. He also said the U.S. had control over Tehran airspace and that “our patience is wearing thin.”
Mr. Trump announced in April that he was personally paying to have two, 100-foot flagpoles installed at the White House. The White House has an American flag atop the roof, but Mr. Trump wanted to see larger flags at the complex.
“They’ve needed flag poles for 200 years,” he said in April. “It was something I’ve often said, ‘They don’t have a flag pole.’”
