President Trump’s approval rating is rising as Americans’ worries regarding the economy and a possible recession lessen, a new poll shows.

Mr. Trump’s approval rating stands at 44% among Americans, an uptick from April, a Reuters/ Ipsos survey from May found. The April survey found that 42% of Americans liked his job performance in April.

Some 52% of Americans still disapprove of his presidency, but the number is slightly down from April when it was 53%.

“Time for a reality check. … I think some folks thought Trump’s approval rating would keep falling, but it’s rising,” Harry Enten, host of CNN’s “Margins of Error,” said on social media.

Some 39% of Americans approve of the way Mr. Trump is handling the economy, a two-point increase from April. After a dip in stocks, they shot up after the U.S. and China came to a sort of truce.

Mr. Trump said Chinese tariffs would rise again if a favorable deal isn’t struck during the 90-day trade war pause.

The poll also shows that 41% of Americans approve of how Mr. Trump has handled foreign policy, while 48% disapprove.

Mr. Trump was returning to Washington on Friday after spending several days in the Middle East making deals and fostering relationships in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

On immigration, the poll found 48% of Americans like the president’s actions versus 47% against.

Mr. Trump promised to close the border to illegal immigrants, and he’s done exactly that.

According to numbers put out by the Department of Homeland Security, daily border encounters are down by 93% and migrant crossings are down by 99.99%.

The poll was conducted May 12-13 with 1,163 U.S. adults. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

Just last month, Mr. Trump railed against polls showing his approval rating slipping.

“First of all, they’re fake polls. And if you take a look at the polls, they interviewed more, for the most part, they interviewed more Democrats than they did Republicans, which is ridiculous and unfair,” Mr. Trump said as he phoned into NewsNation’s town hall.

“Democrats aren’t voting for Trump,” he said.
