Texas Gov. Greg Abbott vowed to sign the new congressional map after it was approved just hours earlier by the state Senate.

“The One Big Beautiful Map has passed the Senate and is on its way to my desk, where it will be swiftly signed into law,” Mr. Abbott, a Republican, said in a statement, borrowing President Trump’s nickname for his massive reconciliation bill.

“I promised we would get this done, and delivered on that promise,” he said. “I thank Lieutenant Gov. Dan Patrick for leading the passage in the Senate of a bill that ensures our maps reflect Texans’ voting preferences.”

The vote was approved along party lines early Saturday.

It comes after Texas House Democrats returned to the state this week following their flight to try to stop the Trump-inspired gerrymandered map to help the GOP boost its majority in Congress.

Mr. Trump applauded Mr. Patrick in a social media post, calling him a “terrific and powerful Lieutenant Governor for the Great State of Texas, a place I truly love.”

“Dan’s leadership was pivotal in the passage of the new, fair, and much improved, Congressional Map, that will give the wonderful people of Texas the tremendous opportunity to elect 5 new MAGA Republicans in the 2026 Midterm Elections — A HUGE VICTORY for our America First Agenda,” the president wrote.

He said Mr. Patrick “will continue to fight tirelessly alongside of us to Secure our already Secure Border, Stop Migrant Crime and the Flow of Illegal Drugs into our Country, Grow the Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Restore American Energy DOMINANCE, Champion School Choice, Support our Military/Vets, and Strongly Protect our always under siege Second Amendment.”

The redistricting in Texas has spurred other states, namely California, Missouri, Ohio and New York, to consider similar gerrymandering.

Democrats in Texas have already vowed to challenge the new map.

“What we have seen in this redistricting process has been maneuvers and mechanisms to shut down people’s voices,” state Sen. Carol Alvarado, leader of the chamber’s Democratic caucus, said on social media after the new map was finalized by the Republican Senate.
