The Minnesota man who confessed to killing a state lawmaker and her husband reportedly penned a “rambling, conspiratorial letter” addressed to the FBI that said Gov. Tim Walz instructed him to kill U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar.

Vance Boelter, 57, was arrested after a two-day manhunt and charged with murder for killing Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark Hortman, last weekend.

Boelter faces other federal and local charges for stalking Minnesota politicians and shooting state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette Hoffman, both of whom survived the attack.

The Minnesota Star Tribune reported on Boelter’s  1 1/2-page letter, which among other “incoherent” ramblings claimed Mr. Walz wanted him to kill Ms. Klobuchar so he could run for her Senate seat.

Boelter also wrote that Mr. Walz tasked him with killing others on his target list and said he had been trained by the U.S. military off the books.

Hennepin County Attorney spokesman Daniel Borgertpoepping told the outlet that the office has “no evidence that the allegations regarding Governor Walz are based in fact.”

The Star Tribune included statements from Walz’s spokesman, Teddy Tschann, and Ms. Klobuchar, which didn’t acknowledge the conspiracy theory but instead focused on their gratefulness that Boelter was apprehended and will face justice.
