Former President Biden’s son Hunter Biden has voluntarily given up his license to practice law in Washington, a move that avoids disciplinary hearings.

The disciplinary process was triggered by Mr. Biden’s two criminal cases. In one criminal dispute, he was found guilty of lying on a background check form about his drug use when purchasing a firearm and in the other dispute, he pleaded guilty to charges related to tax evasion.

His father pardoned him before leaving office.

In court records made public Wednesday, it was revealed Mr. Biden moved to voluntarily surrender his bar license and that the Board on Professional Responsibility supports that decision.

“The Board on Professional Responsibility has recommended that the Court accept Respondent’s consent to disbarment,” James Phalen, executive attorney for the D.C. Board of Professional Responsibility, said in an April 1 court filing.

Mr. Biden submitted an affidavit about his decision, but that was not made public along with the Board of Professional Responsibility’s paperwork.

Mr. Biden had been admitted to practice law in Washington in 2007. His current status according to the D.C. Bar is listed as under a temporary disciplinary suspension as of Wednesday afternoon.
