House Republicans introduced a resolution Wednesday establishing a new select subcommittee to continue the investigation of the events surrounding the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot.

Rep. Barry Loudermilk, Georgia Republican, introduced the resolution establishing the new select subcommittee for the 119th Congress.

Once the House approves the resolution, the work will be chaired by Mr. Loudermilk and exist as a select subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee, which is chaired by Rep. Jim Jordan, Ohio Republican.

Mr. Loudermilk previously led an investigation into the events related to the Jan. 6 Capitol attack within a select subcommittee under the House Administration panel.

The subcommittee probed the investigation by the now defunct Jan. 6 Select Committee, which was wholly appointed by then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, following the riot.

On that date, Trump supporters breached the Capitol to protest the certification of the 2020 presidential-election win by Democrat Joseph R. Biden.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, Louisiana Republican lauded the work of Mr. Loudermilk and his previous committee in “exposing the false narratives peddled by the politically motivated January 6 Select Committee during the 117th Congress.”

He added, however, “There is clearly more work to be done. The resolution introduced today will establish this Select Subcommittee so we can continue our efforts to uncover the full truth that is owed to the American people. House Republicans remain intent on delivering the answers that House Democrats skipped over.”

Mr. Loudermilk said his previous subcommittee “uncovered that what happened at the Capitol that day was the result of a series of intelligence, security, and leadership failures at multiple levels within numerous entities.”

He added, “It is vital that we continue to uncover the facts and begin the task of making needed reforms to ensure this level of security failure may never happen again.”

Mr. Loudermilk’s previous subcommittee released its findings into the politicization of the Pelosi-picked panel, which included evidence that former Rep. Liz Cheney, Wyoming Republican, colluded with “star witness” Cassidy Hutchinson without the knowledge of Ms. Hutchinson’s attorney, that President Trump did not attack his Secret Service detail at any time on Jan. 6, and that he did not have intelligence indicating violence was coming.
