The top Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee has created a hotline for employees fired from the Homeland Security Department to share their stories.

Rep. Bennie G. Thompson of Mississippi said he is investigating the impact of the firings on the department’s ability to do its job, and he’s looking for details.

“With the Trump administration wreaking havoc on the entire federal workforce, it is critical for us to determine the impact on our country’s homeland security,” Mr. Thompson said. “We need a federal government that is fully functional and can keep the country secure.”

Data released by House Democrats last week said President Trump and his team had fired roughly 38,000 employees as of Feb. 23. About 400 of those were at Homeland Security.

Democrats’ new web page says it allows anonymous reports but they would “encourage” people to leave their contact information so the committee can follow up.

The page also assures employees the data is safe from the administration’s eyes.

“This is a custom-built web form stored entirely on the House data server, and it is entirely hosted on the House webserver. Nothing you enter on this form is stored or retained in any fashion online. An email is generated and sent to Democratic staff and no record is kept of the form,” the web page says.
