The federal judge deciding on President Trump’s takeover of Washington’s police department said Friday that she has a problem with firearms.

“I freak out around guns,” Judge Ana Reyes said during a hearing on the president’s takeover.

She was pondering the roles of the chief of police versus the overseer that the Trump administration has sought to place over the department. At one point, she talked about a specific hypothetical and put herself in the role of the police chief, then said that would never happen because of her issue with firearms.

The case likely does not turn on any questions about firearms.

Judge Reyes was appointed to the court by President Biden.
