Republican Curtis Sliwa on Thursday dismissed speculation that the Trump administration is pressing him to bow out of the New York mayoral race.

The red beret-wearing Sliwa has faced calls to drop out so voters who oppose front-runner Zohran Mamdani can unify behind former Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

“The White House has not contacted me, and I’m not interested in a job with the White House,” Mr. Sliwa said in a statement. “My focus is right here in New York. I’m the only candidate on a major party line who can defeat Mamdani, and I’m committed to carrying this fight through to Election Day. The people of New York City deserve a mayor who truly cares.”

The statement followed a New York Times report that Trump officials have talked about giving Mr. Sliwa and Mr. Adams jobs in the administration if they quit running.

Mr. Cuomo is running as an independent after losing the June Democratic primary by almost 13 points to Mr. Mamdani.

The election is Nov. 4.
